Winter sports in Switzerland are an expensive pleasure! New study by Bank Clerk<\/strong> and the Economic Research Institute Bak Economics<\/strong> shows that most major ski resorts in the country have again raised their prices for the new season \u2013 by an average of 10 percent.<\/p>\n

\u201eThere must be a cheaper option!\u201c the budget-conscious skier thinks. So he looks beyond national borders. After all, it doesn\u2019t always have to be Switzerland or nearby Austria.<\/div>\n

The cheapest option in Switzerland is in Ticino: a family of four pays 3399 Swiss francs<\/strong> for a week in Airolo, Ticino, in mid-February. In stark contrast, a week in Zermatt, Valais, is the most expensive experience: a family has to pay 11,787 Swiss francs<\/strong> for the same period.<\/p>\n

Bansko: The discovery of the Swiss media<\/h3>\n

Half a liter of beer during \u201capre-ski\u201d (apr\u00e8s-ski<\/a>) costs 90 raps<\/strong> (under 1 franc). And a night in a 3-star hotel costs a little over 55 Swiss francs<\/strong> per night for a double room. And all this in a small town with Bulgarian charm, 150 restaurants and bars, and just under 10,000 inhabitants. Prices that Swiss winter destinations simply can't compete with.<\/p>\n

But what do you get for your money? With 75 kilometers of slopes and 14 lifts, Bansko is not the most demanding winter resort, no doubt. But it is ideal for winter sports enthusiasts who want to avoid the crowds and enjoy the slopes in peace and at their own pace. Bansko is considered a snow-sure resort, as the lifts reach up to 2580 meters above sea level<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

World Cup and affordable flights<\/h3>\n

Bansko has been a regular fixture on the World Cup calendar for both men and women for years. In February 2024, Marco Odermatt (28) won the giant slalom here. The World Cup circuit will visit Bulgaria again in mid-January 2026. Outside the competition season, the World Cup slope is also accessible to intermediate skiers.<\/p>\n

\u2708\ufe0f Logistics: Flights to Sofia from 157 francs<\/h4>\n

Of course, Bansko is not \u201caround the corner\u201d. The journey takes time and can be expensive. But there are flights with Swiss from Zurich Airport (Kloten) to Sofia and back, starting from just 157 Swiss francs<\/strong>. Bansko, located 160 kilometers away, can be reached in just under two hours by rental car, shuttle or public transport. It is not particularly worth it for a weekend trip, but if you book a week-long sports holiday in Bansko, the travel costs are completely reasonable.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
