There the wind is a sculptor, turning the snow cover into hard, glassy ice or the so-called \u201cfirn\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Here comes the big question that often confuses beginners and leads to dangerous situations: <strong>Do I need real alpine crampons or will snow chains (\u201cmicrospikes\u201d) work?<\/strong> The wrong answer to this question is the leading cause of slips and accidents in the Bansko area. Let&#039;s take a look at why choosing the right grip is the difference between a successful hike and a rescue.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #f8f9fa; border-left: 5px solid #007bff; padding: 20px; margin: 25px 0;\">\n<h2 style=\"margin-top: 0; color: #0056b3;\">1. Snow chains (Microspikes): For the forest and the alleys<\/h2>\n<p>These are lightweight devices consisting of a rubber elastic mesh and small metal prongs (usually up to 1 cm long) connected by chains.
