This year tourist traps in Bansko<\/strong> They are not just \u201cbills written down.\u201d They exploit the biggest fear and confusion of consumers right now: the exchange rate.<\/p>\n

We have received confirmed complaints from tourists in the last 48 hours. The scheme is simple and brutal: The price is low on the sign (the customer thinks it is in LEVA), but the same figure is marked on the cash register, but in EURO.<\/strong> This automatically doubles your bill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I. The \u201cCurrency Mimicry\u201d Fraud\u201d<\/h2>\n

This is the most dangerous trap right now. Merchants rely on your habit of seeing prices in leva.<\/p>\n

How does the scheme work?<\/h3>\n

On the street or in front of a restaurant you see a blackboard with the following inscription: \u201cSoup + Main = 15\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n

  • \u274c Your guess:<\/strong> \u201cOh, 15 leva is a great price for lunch!\u201d<\/li>\n
  • \ud83d\udcb8 Reality:<\/strong> The bill comes and says 15 EUR (which is almost 30 leva).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    When you object, the staff points out that \u201cit doesn\u2019t say currency anywhere,\u201d and \u201cwe are already a European resort.\u201d Legally it\u2019s a gray area, but financially it\u2019s pure fraud.<\/p>\n

    \ud83d\udee1\ufe0f How to protect yourself:<\/strong> If you do not see the symbol \u201clv.\u201d or \u201cBGN\u201d next to the number, you MUST ask: \u201cIs this in leva?\u201d<\/em> before ordering. Take a photo of the menu\/sign with your phone for proof.<\/p>\n

    The double menu<\/h3>\n

    Another variation of this trap: At the entrance the menu is in leva (to entice you), and inside at the table they give you a menu with prices in euros, but with the same design. The difference in the numbers is small, but the currency changes everything.<\/p>\n

    II. The Chaos of \u201cEuro-Rounding\u201d<\/h2>\n

    Besides directly exchanging currency, be careful about the exchange rate. The official one is 1.95583, but on the street, different laws apply.<\/p>\n

    Taxi drivers are also taking advantage of the hustle and bustle.<\/p>\n

    The new trick:<\/strong> The old window sticker shows \u201c10\u201d. The driver verbally adds \u201cEuro\u201d when you arrive. If you get into a car without the currency clearly indicated on the sticker (BGN\/km), you are at risk.<\/p>\n

    Tip:<\/strong> Use apps or order from a hotel. Ask \u201cIs the fare 10 BGN?\u201d before boarding.<\/p>\n

    IV. The Eternal Classics (Still Relevant)<\/h2>\n

    While everyone is looking at the euro, the old tourist traps in Bansko<\/strong> they work flawlessly.<\/p>\n

    The \u201c100 Grams\u201d Menu\u201d<\/h3>\n

    This trick is not going away. The price of \u201c15\u201d (whether it is euro or leva) is often for 100 grams, not per portion. Combined with the currency scam, a steak can cost you 100 leva.<\/p>\n

    ATMs that are not in a bank branch continue to rip you off with withdrawal fees and terrible currency conversion rates (DCC). Avoid them!<\/p>\n
