In the last IOC vote in Lausanne, Sofia lost to the French Albertville by only two votes - a moment that remains bitter in Bulgarian sports history, but proved that our country has the potential for events of this magnitude.<\/p>\n<p>Bids in 1994 and 2014 followed, both of which failed, but focused attention on the need for infrastructure modernization. With its 75 km of perfectly maintained slopes and a state-of-the-art lift network, the town is ready for the highest sporting standards. The organization of numerous World Cups in alpine skiing and snowboarding has proven that Bansko&#039;s logistical capacity is at a world level.<\/p>\n<p>For the Winter Olympics to become a reality in Bansko, a state strategy is needed to build facilities that are currently missing in the country \u2013 such as a bobsleigh and skeleton chute, as well as a large ice hockey arena.
