2. The Ancient Theater in Plovdiv

The scene of the centuries in the oldest living city in Europe. Ideal to combine with a walk in “Kapana”.

3. Perperikon

🚗 From Bansko: 235 km | ⏱️ Time: ~3 hrs 50 mins.

The sacred rock city of the Thracians in the Eastern Rhodopes, associated with prophecies about Alexander the Great.

4. Tsarevets Fortress (Veliko Tarnovo)

🚗 From Bansko: 310 km | ⏱️ Time: ~4 hrs 15 mins.

The symbol of the Second Bulgarian Empire. We recommend staying overnight to see the “Sound and Light” show.

5. The Madara Horseman

The only rock relief in Europe from the early Middle Ages (UNESCO). Requires a long planned trip.

6. Thracian Tomb (Kazanlak)

The masterpiece of the Valley of Roses. The frescoes are the best preserved from the Thracian period.

7. Old Nessebar

The museum city on the Black Sea. A perfect destination for a summer weekend after the mountains.

Natural phenomena that take your breath away.

1. Trigrad Gorge and Devil's Throat

🚗 From Bansko: 120 km | ⏱️ Time: ~2 h. 30 min. (mountain road)

One of the most impressive places in The 14 Wonders of Bulgaria. The gorge is “locked” between 180-meter cliffs, and the “Devil's Throat” cave hides the highest underwater waterfall in the Balkans (42 m).

💡 Tip: The road through Dospat is very picturesque, but with many bends. Drive carefully!

2. Belogradchik Rocks

🚗 From Bansko: 240 km | ⏱️ Time: ~3 hrs 45 mins.

A phenomenon with red sandstone cliffs and an ancient fortress that looks like a setting from another planet.

3. The Seven Rila Lakes

🚗 From Bansko: 95 km | ⏱️ Time: ~1 h. 40 min. (to Panichishte lift)

The emblem of the Bulgarian mountains. We strongly recommend leaving Bansko early in the morning to avoid the queues at the lift.

4. The Melnik Pyramids

🚗 From Bansko: 105 km | ⏱️ Time: ~1 hour 30 minutes.

The closest “miracle” to Bansko. Unique sand shapes and beautiful wine in the smallest town – Melnik.

5. Devetashka Cave

🚗 From Bansko: 315 km | ⏱️ Time: ~4 hrs. 00 mins.

The cave with the huge “eyes” to the sky. Home to thousands of bats and incredible acoustics.

6. Musala Peak

🚗 From Bansko: 75 km | ⏱️ Time: ~1 hour 20 minutes (to Borovets)

The roof of the Balkans (2925 m). The road through Yakoruda is picturesque, and the ascent by lift from Borovets makes the peak accessible.

7. The Wonderful Bridges

🚗 From Bansko: 170 km | ⏱️ Time: ~3 hrs 10 mins.

Majestic marble arches in the Rhodope Mountains, left over from an ancient cave. The road is mountainous and slow, but the view is worth it.
