The problem of pollution of public spaces in our city is once again on the agenda and is causing serious public discontent. Every morning the municipal playgrounds in Bansko They wake up in an unacceptable state – turned into a kind of dump after irresponsible night gatherings of young people. This behavior not only spoils the urban environment, but also poses risks to the health and safety of the youngest residents of the municipality.

The ugly face of vandalism in Bansko, see the official post on the municipality's website here

The Municipality of Bansko came out with a sharp reaction and photos that show an extremely ugly and sad reality. The footage shows overflowing bins, scattered plastic and glass bottles, cigarette butts, food packaging and broken elements around the benches and play equipment. Unfortunately, this has long been no longer an isolated incident, but has become a routine, everyday problem.

The main source of this systematic pollution is the irresponsible behavior of some of our young fellow citizens. Such actions demonstrate a worrying lack of basic upbringing and respect for both public labor and municipal property. When a playground is used for purposes other than its intended purpose at night, in the morning it is completely unusable for mothers with small children.

The official position of the local government

“The condition of municipal playgrounds every morning is unacceptable… This is a recurring problem that shows a lack of respect for municipal property and public spaces. Such acts of vandalism and carelessness cannot be ignored.” – announced by the municipal administration, calling for an immediate change in behavior.

The financial cost of negligence and hooliganism

How long will we pay for other people's mistakes?

Such acts of vandalism in parks and recreation areas raise a very serious and painful question for our entire society: Should all of us, the taxpayers, constantly be spending our money on extraordinary cleaning, maintenance, and repair of damage caused by unscrupulous behavior?

Every lev spent on repairing a broken swing, repairing a bench or extraordinary garbage collection from the lawns is a lev taken from the development budget. These funds could be invested strategically in the construction of completely new sports facilities, more lush landscaping, modernization of lighting or improvement of infrastructure in the neighborhoods of Bansko. Instead, the municipality is forced to function in a mode of constantly covering the consequences of someone's hooliganism.

Warning: Zero tolerance for violators

Bansko has established itself as a world-renowned capital of winter sports and cultural festivals. Such an appearance of the parks is absolutely incompatible with the image of the resort. Negligence, pollution and hooliganism throughout the city will not be tolerated. This applies in full force to all public places - parks, green areas, playgrounds and sports grounds.

How to deal with pollution of public spaces?

Solving this pressing problem cannot rest solely on the shoulders of municipal sanitation workers. The city belongs to all of us – residents and guests – and the responsibility for it is fully shared. Bansko is our common home. It depends on each of us how this home will look – whether it will be clean, tidy and welcoming, or whether we will accept it being dirty and messy.

Civil control and prevention

To keep the new playgrounds in Bansko healthy and safe, joint efforts are needed:

  • Upbringing and personal example: We need to educate children and adolescents to respect public property and nature.
  • Active civic position: If you witness acts of vandalism, broken equipment, or gross pollution, do not ignore it.
  • Using the bins: The simple rule that everyone should dispose of their waste in the designated places solves 90% of the problem.

The team of our portal categorically supports the position of the local administration. We call on everyone to be uncompromising towards such actions. Let us be vigilant and protect the investments made for the children of Bansko.
