Top fishing locations in Bansko and the surrounding area

The area has several extremely scenic bodies of water that are easily accessible. Whether you're a pro with your own equipment or a beginner looking to try it for the first time, here are some places worth casting your line:

1. Belizmata Dam: The Mirror of Pirin

This is probably the most beautiful place to fishing in Bansko, located just 3 km from the center in the direction of the mountain. Here nature literally embraces you.

  • The atmosphere: The dam is surrounded by centuries-old pine trees, and its calm waters offer a view of the peaks of Pirin. The place is cool even in the hottest summer heat.
  • Conditions: The fishing is mainly sport fishing. You can rent tackle on site if you don't bring your own.
  • Additional activities: A panoramic eco-trail runs around the dam, and there are designated picnic areas and gazebos for families.

2. Krinets Dam: From the hook directly to the pan

Located in the lower part of the city (the "Gurovitsa" area), "Krinets" is a favorite place for locals and guests looking for a combination of sports and good cuisine.

This reservoir is a classic example of a commercial site where success is almost guaranteed. The dam is regularly stocked with carp and trout, making it an ideal destination for children - the joy of the first fish caught is irreplaceable.

Important for gourmets: The fish you catch is paid per kilogram, but the big advantage is the adjacent restaurant. There, the chefs will prepare your catch right away, while you enjoy the view of the Todorka and Vihren peaks with a glass of cold drink in hand.

3. The Fisherman's Village Complex (Dobrinishte)

It is located just a few minutes from Bansko, on the road to the Gotse Delchev hut. This is a specialized trout farm, fed by crystal mountain water. The fish here are extremely active, and their meat has excellent taste qualities due to the clean environment.

River Fishing: A Challenge for Masters

For those who possess a certified fishing license and seek the thrill of "wild" water, the rivers in the region offer a true adventure. Fishing in the Mesta River and the lower reaches of the Glazne River is possible, but requires knowledge of the terrain and the habits of the local trout.

Attention: Fishing within the boundaries of Pirin National Park (including the high lakes such as Banderishki and Vasilashki) is strictly prohibited or subject to very specific regimes. Always check the current orders of the IARA before heading to the high mountains to avoid fines starting from 500 leva.

Prices, equipment and rules in the 2025 season

One of the biggest advantages of fishing around Bansko is its affordability. You don't need to invest thousands of leva in professional equipment to have a pleasant afternoon.

  • 📌 Entrance fee/Fishing rod: At private dams, the fee is between 5 and 10 leva per rod.
  • 📌 Equipment rental: A full set (fishing rod, bait, live bait) costs about 10-15 BGN per day.
  • 📌 Catch prices (indicative):
    • Trout: 18 – 22 BGN/kg
    • Carp: 10 – 15 BGN/kg

Why choose fishing as part of your vacation?

In a world where our daily lives are dictated by phone notifications and deadlines, fishing is one of the few activities that „forces“ us to stop. It’s meditation in action. As you wait for the float to twitch, you’re not just catching fish—you’re connecting with the rhythm of the mountain.

For families, this is a great way to get the kids away from the screens. Many of the complexes also offer playgrounds, so while dad (or mom!) is stalking the big carp, the little ones can play freely in the fresh air.

Are you ready for the big event?

Don't forget to bring sunscreen and a good mood. Pirin awaits you!
