All routes are passable, and the weather is more stable than summer — afternoon storms are rare. The routes to Vihren, The horse and the lakes are accessible until the end of September. From the end of the month the first morning frosts appear on the upper areas — dress warmly.

🏠 Cabins — Open, peaceful

Most huts are working by the end of September or beginning of October. Weekend reservations are still recommended, but easier to find than during the summer peak. Cabin evenings in September are especially atmospheric — the fire in the fireplace is already burning, and the starry sky is crystal clear.

📷 Photographic potential — Maximum

It is September. the best month for photography in Pirin. The soft autumn light, long shadows and rich colours of the forests create incredible shots. The early mist in the valleys, slowly lifting after sunrise, is purely cinematic. Bring a wide-angle lens.

✅ Recommended routes

  • Walk to Banderitsa hut or Demyanitsa hut — the beech forests along both routes are in full fall colors. A must for photographers.
  • Climbing the Vihren Peak — on a clear September day, visibility from the summit is at its highest of the year. Set off at 7 a.m. for a cloudless morning at the summit.
  • Transition Bezbog Hut — Popovoto Lake — the autumn colors reflected in the dark green water of the lake are among the most beautiful views in Pirin.
  • Route to Baikusheva mura — The 1300-year-old tree in the middle of the autumn forest is an almost mythological sight. Light and accessible to everyone.
  • Transition Bayuvi Dupki — Djindzhiritsa — the reserve is in absolute silence, and the centuries-old white mulberry trees among the autumn colors are unique.

✕ What NOT to do

  • Don't go on upper routes without a warm layer — from mid-September, temperatures on the peaks can drop to 0°C at night and to 3–5°C in the afternoon when it is cloudy.
  • Don't count on that. all chalets are open until the end of October — some close as early as the end of September. Check in advance and book.
  • Don't plan. hike to Vihren or Koncheto after September 20th without checking the forecast — the first snowfalls on the peaks are completely real from the end of the month.
  • Don't leave without flashlight — the days are significantly shorter than in summer and if you delay, you risk getting off in the dark after 7:30 p.m.
