The ski season that refutes the skeptics
At the beginning of 2016, the forecasts were gloomy. The financial crisis in Greece and the imposed capital controls threatened to leave hotels in Bansko Greek tourists, the traditional backbone of the winter season, withdrew by nearly 20%.
But the catastrophe did not happen. On the contrary – Bansko registered 15% height. How did this happen? 2016 was the year of the „changing of the guard“. The gap was instantly filled by Romanian tourists and, more importantly, by Bulgarians. The improved economic environment in our country brought Bulgarian skiers back to Pirin, saving the season and proving that the resort is no longer dependent on just one market.
The Estates: The End of the "English Era"„
2016 put an end to the free fall of property prices. The market hit bottom and rebounded, but with new players. The British switched to the side of sellers, and the main buyers were now Bulgarians.
The summer in which Bansko became a stage
This was the year of XIX International Jazz Festival and the unforgettable concert of Joss Stone. This event filled the hotels in August on 100% and proved the potential of summer tourism in the city.
Shadows of the Year: Ecology and Scandals
2016 was also a year of sharp clashes for the second cabin and UNESCO monitoring. The city also experienced its own upheavals – from incidents on the slopes to scandals at the local sports club, which served as important lessons in security.
