Bezbog Lift: Your Gateway to the High Pirin

Vintage illustration in retro poster style of the area around Bezbog hut in Pirin. A chairlift with a sign "DOBRINISHTE" is visible, a small lake in front of the multi-storey hut and majestic rocky peaks in the background. In the foreground there are dense juniper bushes, birds and blooming edelweiss. The text at the top reads: "BEZBOG LIFT: Gateway to the High Pirin", and signs indicate the times for the hike to Popovo Lake, Bezbog Peak and Tevno Lake.
If you are planning a summer vacation in the Bansko and Dobrinishte region, there is one facility that will literally "launch" you into the heart of the Alpine Pirin - this is the legendary Bezbog lift. Located just 11 km from Bansko, this chairlift is not just a means of transportation, but an experience that reveals before your eyes some of the most beautiful high mountain landscapes in Bulgaria.

As experts following the development of tourism in the area, we can confidently say that the cable car ride is the easiest and most accessible way to reach an altitude of 2236 meters, where some of the most iconic routes in the Pirin Mountains begin. In this guide, we will present you with everything you need for your adventure – from technical details to the best trails that start from the upper station.

Technical specifications and the "Godless" experience„

The lift starts from a lower station at the Gotse Delchev hut (1485 m above sea level), which is reached by an asphalt road from the town of Dobrinishte. The facility is a double-seater and consists of two parts with a total length of nearly 3300 meters.

  • Trip duration: About 25-30 minutes, depending on weather conditions.
  • Intermediate station: The elevator has an intermediate station where you don't need to get off, but it's important to be prepared for the slight delay.
  • Elevation: You will overcome over 750 meters of vertical distance, which means that the temperature up there may be 5-10 degrees lower than in Dobrinishte.

Editor's Tip:

Even on the hottest summer days, bring a coat with you. The ride on the Bezbog lift is slow and leisurely, exposing you to the mountain wind for half an hour, and at the top the weather changes in minutes.

Top routes from Bezbog hut

As soon as you get off the lift at Bezbog Hut, the majestic Bezbog Lake opens up before you. Here, the choice is yours – whether to enjoy a relaxing break by the shore or to set off on one of the well-trodden paths.

1. Popovo Lake – The Classic in Pirin

This is the most popular route. The hike is relatively easy, takes about 1.5 – 2 hours each way and is suitable for families with children. Popovo Lake is the largest and deepest in Pirin, and the view of „Papaz Gyoll“ and the surrounding peaks is unforgettable.

2. Bezbog Peak (2645 m)

If you are looking for a panorama from above, the peak is your goal. The climb is steep in certain sections (the so-called "Dushevadkata"), but the effort is worth it. From the top, you can see Jengal, Sivria and even Rila in the distance.

3. Tevno Lake – For advanced users

For more experienced mountaineers Bezbog lift is the starting point for the transition to shelter Tevno Lake. This is a longer and more strenuous route (about 4-5 hours), passing through the Jengal Gate, which requires good equipment and preparation.

Attention: Working hours!

Always check the time of the last lift back down (usually around 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM). If you miss it, you will have to walk for at least 2.5 hours to the Gotse Delchev hut, which is steep.

Practical information for visitors

Access to the lift is paid, with prices updated seasonally. There is a separate parking lot in front of the Gotse Delchev chalet, which can be busy on weekends in July and August.

  • Location: 11 km south of Bansko, above the town of Dobrinishte.
  • Access: By car or taxi from Bansko/Dobrinishte.
  • Services: At the lower and upper stations there are eateries where you can try traditional grill or mountain tea.

No matter whether you are an avid climber or just want to escape the summer heat, Bezbog lift is your fastest ticket to the high mountain. The combination of easy access and alpine terrain makes it one of the most valuable places for tourism in the entire Pirin.
