🚗 How to get there? (Logistics)

The starting point is Yavorov chalet„ (1740 м).

🥾 Description of the route

1. From the Yavorov hut through the forest
The hike starts directly from the hut, following the red markings. The trail climbs steeply up through a dense and shady coniferous forest. The slope is steep from the start and serves as a quick, albeit exhausting, warm-up. After about 40 minutes, the forest begins to thin out.

2. The Hajdushka Fountain
Leaving the high tree line, the trail crosses a wide chute (avalanche-dangerous in winter) and shortly after reaches the Haidushka fountain. Here is the time for a short break and the obligatory refilling of the canteens with ice-cold water.

3. Through the Razlog Valley and the squats
After the fountain you enter the real Razlog Valley. The path winds through huge massifs of spruce, which retain heat in the summer and make the hike quite sweaty. The valley narrows, and on both sides you see the impressive marble slopes of the neighboring peaks.

4. The final serpentines to Suhodolski Pass
In its final part, the squats disappear completely. The trail becomes a series of short, steep switchbacks on open rocky scree. Overcoming this final “wall”, you emerge directly onto the Suhodolski Pass (about 2600 m above sea level), where the wind will almost always greet you with full force, and the panorama will leave you breathless.

🛖 Basic information about the site (Yavorov Hut)

The hut is the perfect base camp for this trek and offers some of the best conditions in the entire Pirin.

  • 📌 Tip: If you plan to continue along the ridge after the pass, leave the hut as early as possible in the morning (at sunrise) to avoid the afternoon summer storms.
  • 🕒 Working hours: Open year-round. The restaurant is operating at full capacity.
  • ☀️ Season: Optimal period for this route: July – September.
  • 💧 Water: Be sure to bring at least 2 liters of water per person after the Haidushka Fountain!

⚠️ Important to know

Summer dangers: The crossing of the Razlog Valley is extremely sunny and hot in July and August. Sun protection is critically important. Once you reach the ridge, the weather can change in minutes – always bring a reliable windbreaker and raincoat.

Winter conditions: In winter this route is highly avalanche-prone (especially the chutes before and after the fountain). For winter climbing to the ridge, a special winter stake marking is used, which runs along the edges, not through the bottom of the cirque. Crampons, an ice axe and serious alpine experience are required!

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where can I continue from Suhodolski Pass?
The Suhodol Pass is a crossroads. You can return back to the Yavorov hut (total 5-6 hours round trip), head north to Albutin peak and Zagaza hut (very difficult hike) or head south along the red markings to Razlogski Suhodol, Koncheto and Vihren peak (only for experienced hikers with excellent endurance).

Is the route suitable for children?
If children have experience in the mountains and are used to steep climbs, the route to the ridge and back is completely doable and safe for them in the summer, as the path is wide and there are no dangerous precipices.
