The welcome of New Year in Bansko has become a kind of tradition for thousands of Bulgarians and foreigners. And there is a reason - the combination of snow-covered cobblestone streets, the aroma of burning wood and the euphoria of the holiday is unique.
That's why we created this detailed, over 72-hour plan for action, adapted for the three most common types of companies: couples in love, families with children and noisy companies of friends.
OPTION 1: ROMANCE AND SPA (For Couples)
We are looking for: Tranquility, luxury, gourmet food and an escape from the crowds.
- Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena (5*): The undisputed leader in luxury. Direct access to the track and impeccable service.
- Boutique Hotel Amira (5*): More intimate and cozy, with an excellent wellness area, suitable for those who want more intimacy.
📅 Day 1: December 30 (Warm-up)
- 15:00: Check in. Use the afternoon to visit the spa while most guests are still traveling.
- 19:30: Dinner at The Old Town. We recommend “Molerite” Tavern” or “"Promised"”. These places carry the spirit of old Bansko and are quieter on the eve of the holiday. Order yourself a “Banski Starets” and a bottle of local red wine.
📅 Day 2: December 31 (The Holiday)
- 11:00: Walk to the “Nameless City” (archaeological site) or along the quiet streets around the church “Holy Trinity. Avoid the Gondola area, where it is a madhouse.
- 16:00: Get ready for the evening. Book a massage for two with essential oils.
- 20:00: New Year's Gala Dinner. High-end hotels offer 5 or 7-course menus. Enjoy live jazz or classical music, away from the roar of pirates.

- 16:00: Visit to The ice rink on Pirin St. This is a favorite place for photos and laughter.

We are looking for: Partying, skiing/snowboarding, loud music and nightlife.

🚬 Important information: Smokers vs. Non-smokers
When you book for New Year in Bansko, the issue of tobacco smoke is critical. Although Bulgaria has a law prohibiting smoking in indoor public places, in winter resorts and especially on New Year's Eve, the practice is heterogeneous. Here's what you need to know so that your holiday isn't ruined:
✅ For Non-Smokers (Where is it safe?)
If you are with children, pregnant women, or simply can't stand cigarette smoke, you should be very careful with your choice. A "non-smoking area" in a tavern is often just an adjacent table without a physical barrier.
- Hotel restaurants (4* and 5*): Places like Kempinski (Come Prima), Lucky Bansko, Premier и Regnum They strictly follow the law. There, smoking is absolutely prohibited inside and is only allowed outside in front of the entrance or in special smoking rooms (Cigar bars), which are isolated. This is the safest choice.
- Some trendy restaurants: Restaurants like Le Petit Nicolas и Five Points they usually maintain a smoke-free environment, but always ask when booking.
⛔ For Smokers (Where is the “free zone”?)
Bansko is known for its compromises in the name of partying. If for your company a holiday without a cigarette on the table is not a holiday, search for the following keywords:
- “Winter Garden”: That's the magic word. Many taverns (e.g. Tavern Bansko, The mill, Obetsanova) have extensions with removable walls or roofs. They are considered “semi-open” areas, although they are heated, and smoking is officially or semi-officially permitted there.
- Nightclubs: After 00:00 in most discos (Flash, The Club, Jack's House) control is greatly reduced or smoking is allowed everywhere.
- Ventilation: If you are going to be in a tavern where they smoke, ask for a table near the fireplace (the chimney draws in the smoke) or by the door. Otherwise, by 2:00 AM, visibility becomes zero.
⚠️ Editor's Tip: When reserving a table, don't just ask "Is there smoking?", but "Where exactly is my table - in the main hall (usually smoke-free) or in the garden (with smoke)?" The difference is huge.
