🚗 How to get there? (Logistics)
This route requires slightly more specific logistics, as the starting and ending points are in different valleys.
The start is from Demyanitsa chalet„. It can be reached on foot (about 2 hours) along a wide forest road that starts from the asphalt road above Bansko (Todorova Ornitsa area).
The final is on "Bezbog" hut„, from where you can go down to the Gotse Delchev hut (and accordingly to the town of Dobrinishte) using a chairlift.
Tip: If you have a private car, it is best to leave it in Bansko or Dobrinishte and organize taxi transfers between the two cities.
🥾 Description of the route
1. From the Demyanitsa hut along the Valyavitsa River
The hike starts from the hut along the yellow markings, moving in a southeasterly direction against the flow of the Valyavitsa River. The trail gradually gains height among a beautiful coniferous forest and scrub. This section is very pleasant and rich in water jumps and small waterfalls.
2. Valyavyshki Lakes
After about 1.5 – 2 hours you leave the squat belt and the Big Valyavishko Lake and the other smaller lakes in the group open up before you. The place is extremely photogenic, and the peaks of Jangal and Valyavishki Chukar proudly rise above the water.
3. Climbing the Jungle Gate
The most challenging part of the hike follows. The trail starts steeply up a rocky slope towards the Jungle Gate (2465 m). The climb takes about 40-50 minutes and requires good physical fitness, but the view from the saddle compensates for every effort.
4. Descent to Popovo Lake and Bezbog Hut„
From the gate, a descent begins towards the large circus of Popovo Lake. The trail passes high above its northern shore and continues towards the saddle between the peaks of Bezbog and Polezhan. After a short final descent, you will see Bezbog Lake and the hut of the same name, located on its shore.
🛖 Basic information about the site (Bezbog Hut)
The hut is one of the most modern and easily accessible in Pirin (thanks to the lift), which makes it very lively throughout the season.
- 📌 Tip: Be sure to check the lift's operating hours in advance so you don't have to walk down to Dobrinishte (another 2.5 hours).
- 🕒 Working hours: Open all year round. The lift usually operates from 08:30 to 16:30.
- ☀️ Season: Optimal period for the transition: July – September.
- 🛏️ Beds: It has a large capacity, including rooms with private bathrooms.
- 💰 Price: Standard hut prices, there is also an excellent restaurant.
- 🐕 Dogs: They are allowed in the area, for indoor accommodation please ask in advance.
- ☎️ Reservations phone: 0884 324 810 (check for updates before leaving).
⚠️ Important to know
There is plenty of water on the route in the first half (to the Valyavishki Lakes), but as you climb the Dzhangalska Gate and descend to Popovo Lake, the terrain is dry and exposed to strong sunlight. The rocky sections around the gate require sturdy hiking shoes, because in wet weather the stones are slippery.
Attention: This route is definitely summeryThe area around Jangalska Porta is highly avalanche-prone in winter and should not be crossed without alpine experience and equipment.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I get lost along the route?
The yellow marking is relatively well maintained, but in the area of the Valyavyshki Lakes and the moraines towards the gate, you should carefully watch for the stone pyramids (little men), especially if there is fog.
Is there mobile coverage?
The range is very inconsistent. There is usually a signal around the huts and at the Jungle Gate itself, but in the valleys along the lakes it is completely lost.
Is the route suitable for children?
Only for older children with experience in long mountain hikes and crossing moraines. For young children, the distance and elevation gain are too tiring.
