🚗 How to get there? (Logistics)
By car to the start: The route starts from the entrance to Pirin National Park above the town of Bansko (Glazne area / road to Vihren hut). You can leave your car in the parking lots in Bansko or drive up to Vihren hut (to save the first 3.5 hours of walking), but keep in mind the summer traffic restrictions.
Retraction (Very important!): Since the route is linear, you will end 18 km above the town of Sandanski (Popina Laka area). You must have pre-arranged transportation from Yane Sandanski hut to civilization, or book an overnight stay there.

Crossing the the yellow marking can be divided into the following main stages:
- Stage 1: From Bansko to Vihren hut (About 3.5 – 4 hours). The start is in the forest belt above Bansko. The trail runs parallel to the asphalt road, crossing the Banderitsa River. It passes through Banderishka meadow, Banderitsa hut and Baykushevata mura to Vihren hut (1950 m above sea level). Note: Many tourists start directly from Vihren hut.
- Stage 2: From Vihren hut to Muratovo Lake (About 1 hour). You walk along the right bank of the Banderishta River. Leaving the spruce forest, you reach Muratovo Lake (2230 m above sea level) – an ideal place for rest.
- Stage 3: The storming of the Banderishka Gate (About 1.5 hours). The steepest part. The trail zigzags through scree to the Banderishka Porta saddle (2623 m above sea level).
- Stage 4: Descent through Spano Pole to Yane Sandanski hut (Approx. 3.5 – 4 hours). A long descent begins in the vast circus of Golyamo Spano Pole. The trail crosses streams, enters the forest, passes by the Spano Pole shelter and takes you to the asphalt in front of the Yane Sandanski hut (1230 m above sea level), near the Popinolash waterfall.

⚠️ Important to know
- Weather conditions: Weather It is harsh at Banderishka Gate. Bring a wind and waterproof jacket. Early departure (before 07:00) is a must!
- Snowdrifts: The gullies below the gate often hold snowdrifts until mid-July. Sturdy shoes and poles are required.
- Phone range: During the long descent through Spano Pole, the coverage is weak or completely absent.

Is there water on the route?
Yes, the route is relatively rich in water. You can get water at Banderitsa hut, Vihren hut and from the streams in Spano Pole. However, set out with at least 1.5 liters in reserve.
Is it suitable for children?
No. Due to the enormous length (over 20 km) and serious physical exertion, this full traverse not suitable for small children. Individual stages (e.g. to Muratovo Lake) are great for family walks.
Can I split the route into two days?
Yes! You can spend the night at Vihren hut or Spano Pole shelter (which is about 2 hours before the end of the route).
