🚗 How to get there? (Logistics)
Since this is a linear high-mountain trek, your starting point depends on which hut you stayed in or which valley you headed to.
Start (Vihren hut): There is an asphalt road from the town of Bansko to the Vihren chalet (about 16 km). During the summer months (July to September) there is often a restriction on the passage of private cars during the day, so it is advisable to use the minibuses from Bansko or leave very early. You can park in the designated areas along the road or in front of the chalet, but spaces are limited.
Final (x. Demyanitsa): Unlike "Vihren", next to the "Demyanitsa" hut„ there is no asphalt road. To get there, you need to hike for about 3 hours from the Todorinova Polyana area above Bansko. After completing the hike at Demyanitsa Hut, you will need to allow time for a descent back to Bansko or continue along another route.
🥾 Route description (direction Vihren – Demyanitsa)
1. The beginning: From the Vihren hut up
You start from the meadow in front of the Vihren hut, following the green strip markings. The trail immediately begins to climb steeply along the western slope of the Banderishta Valley. At first, the slope is serious, but you will quickly enjoy views of Vihren Peak, Muratov Peak and the Banderishta Lakes.
2. The climb to Todora's Gate
You continue up, as the trail winds through rocky thresholds and a ravine. After about an hour and a half, the steep climb ends and you emerge on the Main Ridge at the Todora Gate Pass (2568 m). This is the key moment of the hike. Open your eyes! From here, an incredible 360-degree panorama opens up.
3. The views from the gate
To the west you see the marble peaks of Vihren and Kutelo, and to the east – the granite peaks of the Demyanishka Valley and the Strazhit range. Just below you are Todorine Ochi and the upper Valyavishki Lakes. Here is the best place for a long rest, photos and a picnic.
4. The descent to the Valyavyshki Lakes
You leave the ridge and begin a steep, rocky descent to the east. The green marking meanders along the Upper Valyavishko Lake and enters one of the most beautiful lake cirques in Pirin. The landscape is dominated by granite, scree and crystal clear water.
5. Final: To the Demyanitsa hut„
After passing the Valyavitsa Circus, the trail enters the forest belt and follows the course of the Valyavitsa River. The slope becomes gentler. The mixed forest provides you with pleasant shade until you reach the cozy Demyanitsa hut (1890 m).
