Day 6: Explore Bulgaria
Architectural reserve of the village of Kovachevitsa
Visit the architectural reserve village of Kovachevitsa – here the weather It seems as if it has stopped and you will immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Bulgarian Revival among impressive stone houses and narrow cobblestone streets. Kovachevitsa is known for its unique architecture, preserved from the 15th-16th centuries, and is one of the most significant examples of Bulgarian building genius.
The stone houses are strong and proportionate, with a specific masonry of irregular stones, which are firmly glued together with soil, and the finer elements of the wood give beautiful decorative accents. In the village you will also see the church "St. Nikola", built in 1847, which is among the largest Renaissance temples in Bulgaria, built with the efforts of the entire village. A special atmosphere is brought by the soft mountain hills, the pine and beech forests around, and the tranquility of the unique Renaissance ensemble.
Leshten Village and the Mineral Baths
After the walk in Kovachevitsa, head towards village of Leshten – another architectural reserve, known for its enchanting nature and Renaissance houses, an ideal place for walks, photos and silence in nature.
