🟢 Level 1: “The Scenic Soul”
Perfect for: Amateur photographers, families with children, beginner mountaineers and people seeking peace without extreme exertion.
These sights in Pirin are easily accessible, often require less than 2 hours of hiking, and offer views you will remember for a lifetime.
1. Baikusheva mura
Why visit it: Това не е просто дърво, а жив паметник на историята. На възраст над 1300 години, Байкушевата мура е най-старото иглолистно дърво в България. Да застанеш до нейния ствол с обиколка близо 8 метра е смиряващо преживяване.
Location and access: It is located a few meters from the road to Banderitsa hut. It is accessible by car or during the summer season by bus from Bansko to Vihren hut.
2. Godless (The Hut and the Peak)
Why visit it: The classic of Pirin. Bezbog hut is reached by lift from Gotse Delchev hut (above Dobrinishte), which makes the place accessible to all ages. The view of Bezbog Lake immediately after getting off the lift is emblematic.
Tip: The climb itself to Bezbog Peak (2645 m) is easy and panoramic, taking about 1 hour from the hut, without technical difficulties.
3. Popovo Lake
Why visit it: This is the largest and deepest lake in Pirin. Its waters are crystal clear, and the small island in the middle, called “Popovska Shapka”, is a symbol of the mountain.
Route: The walk from Bezbog hut to the lake is pleasant, with a slight elevation gain (about 1:30 h each way). An ideal place for a picnic.
4. Muratovo lake
Why visit it: Located at the foot of Mount Muratov, this lake is a photographer's dream. The reflection of the majestic Mount Todorka in its waters, especially at sunset, is one of the most beautiful views in the park.
Access: About 1 hour of moderate walking from Vihren hut.
🟡 Level 2: “The Hiker”
Perfect for: People with good physical fitness, good equipment and a desire to feel the essence of the high mountain.
This is where we get into the deep end. These are the places where Pirin flexes its muscles and demands respect.
5. Vihren Peak (2914 m)
Why visit it: The first of the mountains and the third highest in the Balkans. The marble pyramid is a symbol of greatness. The climb is steep and tiring, but the panorama from the top covers almost all of Bulgaria, and in clear weather - the White Sea.
Important: Marble becomes extremely slippery in the rain! Be careful.
6. Tevno Lake and Shelter
Why visit it: It is called the “Heart of Pirin”. Situated high in the granite ridge, the place has a special magic. Spending the night in the shelter (2512 m above sea level) is a mandatory ritual for every serious mountaineer. The starry sky here is unsurpassed.
7. Sinanitsa Peak and the hut
Why visit it: Sinanitsa, or the “Cleft Peak”, is one of the most aesthetic peaks. Built of gray-pink marble, it rises vertically above the lake of the same name. The view from the lake shore to the peak and the hut is often compared to landscapes from the Dolomites.
8. Polezhan Peak
Why visit it: The highest granite peak in Pirin. It is considered one of the most panoramic peaks in general, as almost all the Pirin lakes are visible from it, including the hidden Gazei Lakes.
🔴 Level 3: “The Adrenaline Junkie”
Perfect for: Experienced mountaineers who are not afraid of heights, have experience with climbing/roping, and are looking for an adrenaline rush.
9. The Horse
Why visit it: The most iconic and fearsome rock edge in Bulgaria. Narrow (in places up to 40 cm), steep and secured with a metal rope. Crossing it is the ultimate test of balance and psyche. The feeling of an abyss on both sides is incomparable.
10. Kutelo Peak (I and II)
Why visit it: The second highest peak, often undeservedly overlooked because of its neighbor Vihren. But it is from Kutelo that the most dramatic view of the northern face of Vihren opens, The Kazanites and the entire length of The horse.
11. The Watchmen
Why visit it: The jagged “Strazhit” ridge is the last stronghold of the climbers. Even if you just contemplate them from the area of Tevno Lake or Fish Lakes, the view inspires respect and awe for the power of nature.
12. Kamenitsa Peak
Why visit it: Raw, difficult and wild. The climb requires serious walking, often involving scree and scree climbing. It offers a sense of complete isolation and wilderness, far from the tourist crowds.
🏆 Bonus: Cultural “Chill”
If your feet are tired but your soul wants more, visit Rozhen Monastery and the Melnik Pyramids at the foot of the mountain. The perfect end to a tough hike.

🎒 Pirin Pack List: What to put in the backpack?
The golden rule for this route is: “Take a little, but quality”. The elevation gain is serious and every gram counts.
- Shoes: High-top hiking shoes are a must. Pirin is the kingdom of stones and moraines – the risk of injury with sneakers is real.
- Clothes: Layering system. Windproof jacket (membrane), fleece for evenings and merino or synthetic T-shirts. Avoid cotton at all costs.
- Gloves: Thin work or cycling gloves are invaluable for the Horse's metal rope.
- Hut Accessories: Slippers for the hut, earplugs (critical for sleeping quarters), power bank and cash.
- Protection: Sunscreen with factor 50. The white marble of Vihren reflects the sun just like snow.
- Water: There is no water on the high ridge (Day 1)! Bring at least 2-2.5 liters.
