Vivacom Bansko: Is EON and Optics worth it? (Review 2026)

If you ask locals and hotel owners in Bansko which provider offers the most modern television, the name you will hear most often is Vivacom. With the introduction of the EON platform and massive investment in optical infrastructure in Southwestern Bulgaria, the “orange operator” has become a serious factor in the resort. But does the glossy advertising match the harsh mountain reality in 2026?

Infrastructure: Is the “10Gbps network” in Bansko real?

Vivacom (part of United Group) is investing millions in upgrading its network. In Bansko, they have one of the best-developed underground fiber optic networks, which is a key advantage over providers with aerial cables.

What do you actually get?

• Pure Optics (FTTH): In most of the city (Center, Glazne district, the area around the City Park and the stadium), Vivacom delivers fiber directly to the home. This ensures that the speed is stable and the ping is low (below 3-4ms).
• Climate Resilience: Because their main infrastructure is underground, it is much more resistant to heavy snow and winds. When overhead cables become ice-laden and break, Vivacom's optics usually continue to work.
• Speeds: Packages start at 100 Mbps and go up to an impressive 2 Gbps (in EON Premium packages), which is more than enough for any household or Home Office.

Vivacom coverage in Bansko: Where are the "holes"?

Despite the large investments, coverage is not 100% universal for every corner of the municipality.

• Green Zone (Excellent): Central city area, the Old Town, the new complexes around Glazne Street and the starting station of the lift (the lower part).
• Yellow Zone (Variable): Some remote villa areas and complexes high in the mountains (around “The Shiligarnika“", "Chalin Valog" or the road to Dobrinishte) may not yet have access to the fixed network. • Support: Unlike local providers (like G Net), here you have to call the national number 123. Response in case of an emergency is usually within 24 to 48 hours. If your work critically depends on the internet, we recommend having a mobile hotspot as a backup.

EON receiver or Smart TV app?

In Bansko, many apartment owners are wondering whether to get a physical receiver (Box) or just use the app.

• EON Smart Box: We recommend it. The remote is great (glows in the dark, has voice commands), and the box works much faster than the processors of cheap TVs.
• Smart TV App: It is convenient because there are no cables and additional remotes, but it requires a relatively new TV model (Samsung/LG/Android after 2019).
