1. The Golden Rule: No documents, no entry
This is the most common mistake that tourists make. In Bulgaria, gambling law is extremely strict regarding visitor registration.
⚠️ Important for all visitors:
You must carry a physical ID.
- For Bulgarians and EU citizens: ID card.
- For non-EU citizens (e.g. UK): International passport.
- Driver's license: In most casinos NO is accepted as the main registration document.
- Phone photos: They are definitely not accepted. You need the original.
Each guest registers in the system at the entrance. This is not a whim of the casino, but a requirement of the NRA. If you have left your documents in the hotel safe, unfortunately, the security guard does not have the right to let you in, even if you look like an adult.
2. Dress code: “Ski Resort Casual”
Bansko е преди всичко спортен курорт и казината разбират това. Никой не очаква от вас смокинг или вечерна рокля с пайети (въпреки че са добре дошли). Стилът тук може да се определи като „"elegantly casual"“.
✅ What is permissible:
Jeans, shirts, polo shirts, sweaters, dress shoes, and sneakers are all perfectly acceptable. A clean and neat appearance is sufficient for 99% from the halls.
❌ The Big "NO": Ski boots
No matter how fast you run off the track, Entry with ski boots is absolutely prohibited.. First, they ruin the expensive carpets in the halls. Second, they create a risk of slipping and injury. Third, security will stop you at the door. The same goes for a full ski equipment (heaters) that are too bulky for gaming tables.
3. Table Etiquette: Do's and Don'ts
Once inside, there are a few unwritten rules that will help you feel comfortable and earn the respect of the staff and other players.
| ✅ IT'S GOOD TO… (DOs) | ❌ AVOID… (DON'Ts) |
|---|---|
| You leave a tip. If you win a good pot or number on roulette, it is customary to leave a small chip for the dealer. | You touch the cards. At most tables (except for specific poker games) the cards are only touched by the dealer. |
| You know the rules. If you are not sure, ask the dealer. before to begin the handout. They are there to explain. | You use your phone at the table. Photography and talking during the game are strictly prohibited for security reasons. |
| You are waiting your turn. Only place bets when the dealer announces that betting is open. | You place drinks on the cloth. The cups are kept on special stands or tables, never on the playing field. |
4. Currency and payments: Euro and exchange
With the introduction of The Euro (€) As the official currency of Bulgaria, casino payments have become significantly easier for international guests. Here's what you need to know about finances:
- Bets and winnings: All slot machines and tables operate directly in Euros. There is no need to convert rates during play.
- British Pounds (GBP) and Dollars (USD): If you are arriving with a currency other than the Euro (especially UK guests), you can exchange your money directly at the casino's Cashier's Cage. Rates are usually competitive, but it is a good idea to check in advance.
- ATMs: All casinos have ATM machines on site where you can withdraw euros from your international card.
Final words
Bansko casinos are a place for fun, not a battlefield. The staff is used to international guests and usually speaks good English, Russian and Hebrew. Follow these simple rules for dress code and documents, and your only concern will be whether to bet on red or black.
