History and location of Vihren hut

Built in 1933 by the Eltepe Tourist Association (the old name for Vihren Peak), the chalet was originally a modest building. Over the decades, it underwent several large-scale reconstructions to become the modern complex we see today. It is located on the left bank of the Banderitsa River, at the foot of the largest marble massif in the Balkans.
Its strategic location allows for a quick transition from the civilization of the town of Bansko (only 16 km away) directly into the heart of Pirin National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Accommodation: What to expect?
Vihren Hut has a capacity of about 110 beds. They are distributed between the main massive building and several cozy bungalows, which are preferred by groups during the summer season. The rooms have different capacities - from those with 2-4 beds to shared bedrooms.
Terms and amenities:
- Sanitary facilities: The main disadvantage you should be aware of is that the toilets and bathrooms are mostly shared between floors or external.
- Electrification: The hut is fully electrified and has a stable water supply.
- Heating: In winter, the rooms are heated, but it is still recommended to bring a warm sleeping bag for personal comfort.
- Restaurant: The dining room is legendary. With a capacity of over 200 seats (inside and on the terrace), it serves the most delicious tripe soup and homemade mountain tea in the area.
Advice from the local expert:
If you are planning a weekend stay in July or August, make a reservation at least a month in advance. The hut is overcrowded and people often have to sleep in the dining room in emergencies.
