The High Mountain in October

The upper areas are already winterized — the focus is on the lower forest routes and the autumn beauty.

❄️ First snow on the peaks

October brings the first permanent snow in the areas above 2000–2200 m. Temperatures in Vihren are now between -4° and +4°C. The upper routes — Vihren, Koncheto, Tevno Lake — require winter gear: mittens, gaiters, warm clothing. Without proper preparation — do not go above 1800 m.

🏠 Cabins — They're closing one by one

Most mountain huts closed between October 1 and 15. Vihren Hut and Banderitsa may be open until the middle of the month, but without guarantee. Be sure to check before leaving — the disappointment of a closed hut at 2000 m on a cold October day is a real scenario.

🍂 The Lower Forests — In full bloom

The routes to Banderishka Polyana, along the Demyanitsa Valley and in the Bayuvi Dupki area are extremely beautiful. The October Forest with its yellow-orange dome overhead is unforgettable.
