History

The city of the free spirit

On October 5, 1912, Bansko was liberated from Ottoman rule by the weather of the Balkan War. The day has become a symbol of urban identity and pride.

Bansko is the birthplace of Neophyte Rila and Paisii Hilendarski — enlighteners whose spiritual contribution is the foundation of the Bulgarian Renaissance.
