History

The Town of the Free Spirit

On 5 October 1912, during the First Balkan War, the weather! from Ottoman rule. This date has since become a powerful symbol of local identity and pride.

Bansko is the birthplace of Neofit Rilski and Paisius of Hilendar — key enlighteners whose spiritual and cultural contributions laid the foundation for the Bulgarian National Revival.
