Bansko is a unique starting point for three mountains at once. Here are which chalets are within reasonable distance and what to expect from each.

Pirin Rila Rhodope Mountains

Bansko is a rare place in Bulgaria - a town at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, with Rila to the east and the Rhodope Mountains just around the corner. This makes it an ideal base for mountaineers looking for variety. Below you will find an overview of the available chalets, organized by mountain.

Vihren Hut

Easy access
By car: 16 km from Bansko.
On foot: ~4 h 30 min.
The most visited hut in Pirin and the main starting point for climbing Vihren Peak. Routes to Kazanite and Koncheto start from here.
1,810 m above sea level.

Banderitsa Hut

Easy access
By car: 14 km from Bansko.
Camping: Tent field.
In close proximity to the Baykushevata mura - the oldest tree in Bulgaria. Excellent base for camping.
1,740 m above sea level.

Yavorov Hut

Medium access
Access: By car to Betolovoto + 2 hours on foot.
Beds: Excellent conditions.
One of the most beautiful chalets in Bulgaria. Main starting point for the karst ridge of Northern Pirin.
2,236 m above sea level.

Bezbog Hut

Medium access
By lift: From Dobrinishte.
On foot: ~5 hours from Bansko.
A unique view of Lake Bezbog. In the summer it is a base for routes to Popovoto Lake and Kamenitsa.
1,895 m above sea level.

Demyanitsa Hut

Medium access
On foot: ~4 hours on a marked trail.
Beds: Rooms and beds.
It is located in the embrace of 3 rivers. A great starting point to the Vasilashki Lakes.
2,512 m above sea level.

Tevno Lake Shelter

Difficult access
On foot from Bansko: ~7 hours on difficult terrain.
Beds: 30 seats (couches).
The highest shelter in the area, located right next to the lake. A unique place for advanced mountaineers.
1,640 m above sea level.

Pirin Hut

Medium access
On foot from Bansko: ~4 h 30 min.
Beds: 78 seats.
The hut is an important point on the E-4 route and connects tourists to Mitrovo Lake.
1,482 m above sea level.

Gotse Delchev Hut

Easy access
By car: 17 km from Bansko.
Elevator: To the Bezbog hut.
Starting point of the lift to Bezbog hut. A convenient start for families and more novice tourists.

Chalets in Rila

1,040 m above sea level.

Predel Hut

Easy access
By car: At the Predel Pass itself.
Features: Excellent (steam room, bathroom).
It is located at the "gate" between Rila and Pirin. Starting point to the Makedonia hut and the Yavorov hut.

Chalet Macedonia

Difficult access
On foot: From the village of Dobarsko or Predel.
Food: Dining room with fireplace.
Built on Mechi Prohod — "The Pearl of Southwestern Rila". Excellent cuisine.
~1,050 m above sea level.

Dobarsko Hut

Medium access
On foot: ~3 hours from the village of Dobarsko.
Nature: Plenty of berries.
A wonderful intermediate station before the Macedonia hut. Suitable for families.
1,860 m above sea level.

Hristo Smirnenski Hut

Easy access
Access: On the Yundola – Belmeken road.
Beds: Good conditions.
Located in Eastern Rila. A great starting point for easy walks and accessible by car.

Chalets in the Rhodope Mountains

Bansko is surrounded by three mountains, with the Rhodope Mountains in the immediate vicinity lacking classic mountain huts for hiking. However, the mountains offer incredible places for car excursions and weekend getaways.

Long-distance trip

The Wonderful Bridges Hut

By car
Distance: ~160 km from Bansko.
Located next to the rock phenomenon of the same name. One of the most impressive destinations, although further from Bansko.
Advice

Planning a hike?

The Rhodope Mountains around Bansko are more suitable for excursions by car (e.g. to the villages of Leshten, Kovachevitsa) than for multi-day hut hikes.

For classic overnight stays high in the mountains, we highly recommend Pirin and Rila!
