Bansko serves as a unique gateway to three mountain ranges simultaneously. Here is our guide to the mountain huts within easy reach and what each has to offer.
Bansko is a truly unique spot in Bulgaria—a charming town nestled at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, with Rila to the east and the Rhodopes just a stone's throw away. This makes it the perfect base for hikers seeking variety. Below is an overview of the nearby huts, organized by mountain range.

While Bansko is flanked by three ranges, the nearby section of the Rhodopes does not feature classic high-altitude hiking hut. However, the mountains offer incredible places for car excursions and weekend getaways.
The Rhodope region near Bansko is better suited for road trips (e.g., visiting the historic villages of Leshten and Kovachevitsa) rather than multi-day hut-to-hut trekking.
For classic high-mountain overnight stays, we highly recommend focusing on Pirin and Rila!
