🚗 How to get there? (Logistics)

The starting point is the area The betel nut, located about 9 km above the town of Razlog. It is reached by an asphalt road, where you can safely park your car. The eco-trail itself is a wide forest road. An interesting fact is that the route is suitable for both hiking and mountain biking. For those who wish to save some of the walking, it is possible to pass the lower part of the route with an all-terrain vehicle.

The hike begins smoothly, taking you into the cool embrace of a mixed forest. The fun of following the bear paw markings takes you through the beautiful Varnitsata area. Along the way, there are many educational signs strategically placed that tell fascinating stories about bears, wolves, wild goats and, of course, the star of Pirin – the edelweiss.

The terrain is mostly dirt and slightly rocky forest road without dangerous, open or excessively steep sections. Along the route you will hear the murmur of mountain streams and even pass by a small, picturesque waterfall. After about 3 and a half hours at a leisurely pace, the forest slightly recedes to reveal the hospitable Yavorov hut, nestled at the foot of the impressive rock phenomenon of the Steps (Sabite).

⚠️ Important to know

The edelweiss is a strictly protected species in Bulgaria! Cutting, picking or uprooting it is absolutely prohibited. and is punished with salty fines from the park guards. Leave the flower where it belongs - high in the rocks, and take only beautiful photos with you. When hiking in the summer months, stock up on sun protection, as the sun is strong in the upper areas near the alpine zone.

Will I actually see edelweiss on the forest path itself?
The trail to the Yavorov hut has educational features and signs. The living edelweiss itself thrives in the much higher alpine zones and the crevices of the marble rocks (e.g. towards Dzhamdzhiev Rab or Okaden). To see them in person, you will have to continue your hike above the hut.

Is the route suitable for children?
Yes, the route is excellent for a family walk. There are no dangerous precipices, and the markings with bear paws are very fun for young tourists. Just consider the length of about 4 hours with the physical capabilities of the child.

Is there drinking water on the way?
Yes, the trail crosses mountain streams and fountains, and at the end of the route, the Yavorov hut is perfectly equipped with everything you need.
